Where Can International Students Find ICA Student’s Pass Renewal Instructions?

Use the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s Student’s Pass application directory and choose the category that matches the school. ICA publishes separate instructions for government, government-aided and independent schools, approved private education institutions and foreign system or privately funded schools. The correct renewal route is not identical across these categories.

For a student at an eligible private education institution, ICA explicitly describes online renewal for a valid Student’s Pass holder continuing the same course at the same school. Changing to a different course or private institution may call for a transfer or new application instead. Read the specific ICA procedure before treating a school transfer as an automatic extension of an old pass.

Did you know? A school’s approval to continue studying and ICA’s permission to remain in Singapore are different matters. A new enrolment letter, fee receipt or course extension does not itself extend immigration status. Review the pass’s actual expiry date and the official submission window with the school well before the current permission ends.

What should I check before making a decision?

First identify the institution and pass category

Ask the school’s international-student office for its official category and whether it submits applications on a student’s behalf. ICA’s requirements also differ for kindergartens and childcare centres; these have their own dedicated ICA instructions. Never copy a timeline from a university, school or private institution that is not in the same category.

Check whether you already hold a valid Dependant’s Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass or another eligible immigration status. ICA explains when a Student’s Pass is necessary and when exceptions apply. Schools decide admissions, but ICA controls immigration eligibility.

Distinguish renewal, course transfer and cancellation

For an eligible PEI, renewing the same course at the same school is not the same case as changing programmes or moving to a different PEI. Confirm with the new institution and ICA which application type applies; do not submit two conflicting applications in haste. If studies are ending altogether, use ICA’s cancellation guidance, not the renewal service.

Check what documentation the institution must provide, the timing for the correct type of application, whether additional formalities or fees apply and where to track status. Avoid relying on expired third-party checklists or social-media advice about pass extensions.

Plan for the actual expiry date

Make a short record of the pass expiry date, course dates, school contact, online submission reference and any ICA message. If the process is delayed or the course changes, contact the school and ICA through official channels before the deadline. A pending application should not be assumed to confer a right to remain beyond an existing permitted stay.

When the application is approved, follow the conditions in the in-principle approval and ICA’s issuance instructions. Confirm how to retrieve and verify the digital Student’s Pass, instead of assuming the school’s admission confirmation is the final immigration document.

What should I do next?

Ask the school for the correct ICA school category and whether this is a renewal or a transfer. Then use the appropriate ICA Student’s Pass page to verify deadlines, documents, payment and completion requirements. Save the official transaction and follow up before the existing pass expires.
