Use the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s Cancel Student’s Pass page when a foreign student finishes, withdraws from or otherwise ceases studying in Singapore. ICA says the Student’s Pass must be cancelled and any physical pass card surrendered for cancellation within seven days of studies ending. This is an immigration step, not merely a notice to the school.
The school may submit the cancellation online. A pass holder with a Singpass account may also use ICA’s service; if neither route works, ICA provides an official enquiry channel. Ask your institution who is submitting the request, keep evidence of the date studies ceased and check whether ICA’s advance submission instruction applies before the pass expires.
Did you know? Accepting a place at another school, receiving a course withdrawal letter or leaving Singapore does not by itself prove that the existing Student’s Pass has been lawfully cancelled. A new admission offer is not an immigration approval. Confirm the pass status directly using the ICA instructions before deciding whether to remain or re-enter Singapore.

What should I check before acting?
Confirm the actual date studies cease
The relevant event may be graduation, termination or formal withdrawal from the registered course. Ask your school for written confirmation and clarify the effective date, especially if you have stopped attending classes but the course still appears active. Do not guess that the final exam date is automatically the immigration cancellation date.
ICA states that the pass and physical card, if issued, must be dealt with within seven days of cessation. It also asks applicants to submit an online cancellation at least three working days before the Student’s Pass expires. Check your own timing and seek official guidance promptly if these windows may overlap.
Separate school administration from ICA approval
Schools can apply for cancellation through ICA’s online process. A pass holder with Singpass may submit directly. Confirm which party is responsible, what confirmation will be issued and whether any physical pass card needs to be returned. Keep the official confirmation rather than relying only on a verbal school update.
For a transfer to a new institution, speak with both schools and ICA about the proper route. A fresh offer does not automatically extend the validity of an old Student’s Pass. An educational admission decision and permission to reside in Singapore are made by different authorities.
Check physical card surrender and travel plans
ICA says a physical Student’s Pass card may be surrendered to an ICA officer at the checkpoint when leaving Singapore. If no physical card was issued, read the relevant digital-pass and cancellation instructions rather than assuming you must produce a plastic card.
Before travel, review passport validity, any onward immigration permission and the confirmed cancellation. A cancelled pass is not valid permission to stay in or re-enter Singapore. If the student plans to remain after studies, ask ICA what valid immigration status or other approval is needed before acting.
Use the right service for a problem or follow-up
If the online cancellation fails, ICA directs users to its enquiry form with details of the issue. Supply only the information the official service requests. Avoid sharing application numbers or identity documents with unofficial intermediaries who claim they can cancel the pass instantly.
The older Student’s Pass overview covers applying for study permission. The Student’s Pass medical requirement guide concerns issuance formalities, not cancellation. Choose the guide that matches your current stage.
What should I do next?
Confirm the school’s effective cessation date, check the ICA cancellation page and agree with the institution who will submit the application. Save the ICA confirmation, return the card if required and verify your next lawful immigration arrangement before departure or any continued stay.
For education decisions after a course change, consult Singapore School Pathways & Calendar. For immigration questions, ICA remains the controlling authority; do not substitute an admissions email or tuition fee receipt for a valid pass.
