Where Can Singapore Students Find Official Form I-20 Information?

Start with the US Department of Homeland Security’s Students and the Form I-20 page. It explains what the “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status” is, why F and M students need it and how an accepted student receives it from a designated school official.

Then use the US Department of State’s Student Visa page to place the form in the correct sequence. A SEVP-approved school accepts the student, creates the SEVIS record and issues Form I-20; the student then handles the I-901 fee and visa application steps.

Did you know Form I-20 is important evidence but is not a visa and does not guarantee entry? Check the school, personal details, programme information, dates, financial information and SEVIS ID before using it, and ask the school’s designated official to correct errors rather than editing the form yourself.

What should I check on Form I-20?

Confirm the issuing school and route

Form I-20 is for F or M nonimmigrant student status. It is issued by a designated school official at a SEVP-certified school after the school accepts the student and creates the relevant SEVIS record. A recruiter or application platform should not invent or issue it independently.

Use our SEVP-certified school guide alongside the official school search. Check the campus and programme shown, not merely a similar institution name.

Compare every identity and programme field

Read the name, date of birth, country information and SEVIS ID against the passport and the school’s records. Then check the school, education level, programme, start and end dates, estimated costs and funding information for obvious mismatches.

Contact the designated school official before paying or applying if a material detail is wrong. The school controls the SEVIS record and can explain whether it must update or reissue the form; students should not type over, alter or reconstruct the official document.

Keep the sequence clear

The form connects several steps but does not merge them. School admission comes first, the SEVIS record and Form I-20 follow, the I-901 fee is a separate payment, and the DS-160 and interview belong to the visa application.

Use the I-901 SEVIS fee guide and our DS-160 guide only when you reach those steps. Match the SEVIS ID consistently across the records.

Protect the current signed record

Follow the DHS page for the student signature, travel endorsement and circumstances in which an updated form may be needed. Requirements differ between an initial journey, later travel, a programme change, a transfer and practical-training requests, so use the section matching the real event.

Keep the latest school-issued copy accessible and retain earlier copies as part of the immigration record. If travel or programme details change, ask the designated school official which version is current before booking around an assumption.

What is the next useful step?

Read the school’s own international-student instructions together with the DHS Form I-20 page. Our overseas student-visa source guide explains the wider admission–immigration distinction; this page focuses only on the official Form I-20 route.

For the broader application path, continue to US university applications from Singapore, then return to the school and US authorities for current case-specific instructions.
