Where Can Singapore Students Find Free Official Duolingo English Test Practice?

Start with the Duolingo English Test practice-test help article. It links to the official practice test and explains that, after creating an account, you can practise repeatedly at no cost. Use that provider-linked route to avoid confusing an unofficial mock with DET’s own materials.

The help article describes an approximately 45-minute adaptive experience with the same question types as the certified test. It returns an estimated score range. That range is preparation feedback, not a certified result to submit with a university application.

Did you know? For shorter work, DET’s preparation-resources answer directs readers to its practice page for both a free test and individual-question practice. First check that your intended course accepts DET for your intake, then choose whether you need whole-test familiarisation or a closer look at a particular question type.

How can I use DET practice sensibly?

Choose a question to answer before opening a practice activity: “Do I understand the task?”, “Can I respond independently?” or “What needs more language work?”

Distinguish the full attempt from a question preview

The provider offers both routes, so a short practice activity need not become another complete test. Use individual questions when you want to understand the instruction or practise a response format. Choose the fuller practice test when you want to experience the sequence and receive the estimated range.

Keep a simple note of what you used. Comparing a focused exercise with a whole adaptive attempt as though they were identical can hide the very difficulty you are trying to understand.

Read the range as an estimate

DET explains that some practice questions change in difficulty according to performance. A harder-feeling question is therefore not, on its own, proof that the attempt is going badly. Finish the activity and read the feedback in the terms the provider uses.

Record the whole estimated range rather than quietly treating its upper end as your achieved result. If a course has a stated English requirement, use its current admissions instructions to understand the actual evidence needed; a practice estimate cannot settle that acceptance decision.

Give each attempt a learning follow-up

Duolingo’s test-readiness advice emphasises developing real English proficiency rather than memorising test questions. Treat practice as a way to notice where your language or task understanding needs attention.

Try a concrete follow-up: explain a short article aloud, write a clear response to a new prompt, or listen again to unfamiliar spoken English and summarise its main point. Choose the activity because it addresses an observed difficulty, not merely because another mock is available.

Check live-test readiness separately

A comfortable practice experience should not be your only readiness check. Before taking the certified test, open the provider’s current Test Readiness material and the separate rules and setup guidance. Use the live instructions rather than assuming every practice condition carries over.

Parents can help a student organise these tasks without turning each practice estimate into an admission verdict. Ask what became clearer, what remains difficult and what the next independent piece of language work will be.

What should I do after the first practice test?

Save the estimated range with the date and a short account of the attempt. Then choose one language skill or task format to work on. Return to practice when you have a useful reason to check again, while keeping the course’s evidence deadline visible.

Continue with DET setup and test rules, certified DET result-sharing instructions and overseas university English-language requirement checks.

Explore the connected learning guides

Choose the question that brought you here. Open one useful guide, try a small task, and stop when you have what you need.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Find the first point where the working stops being reliable. Find Secondary 4 A-Math mark leakage.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Two accounts of the world seem to disagree.

Check the question, source, date and evidence before combining claims. Explore the World Knowledge research library.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.
