Where Can I Check Fee Protection for a Singapore Private Education Course?

Start with TPGateway’s official Protection of Course Fees page. Read it alongside the PEI Listing and the particular school’s contract before paying for a private education course.

Did you know fee protection is not a withdrawal-refund promise? These schemes address unconsumed fees when a PEI cannot continue operating. A different question is what your contract says if you choose to leave.

Check which institution is receiving the payment, which protection arrangement applies and how to verify your status with the school or insurer. For a disagreement about fees or contractual obligations, TPGateway also provides a separate Dispute Resolution route. Keep the payment records and the relevant terms together.

What should you clarify before paying course fees?

Match the payment recipient to the listed institution

Use the official listing to search the institution and permitted course. The page separates PEIs from courses and provides filters for course level, study mode and awarding institution. Compare the result with the actual offer and contract rather than relying on the school’s marketing name alone.

Write down the legal institution name, course title, intake and payment recipient. If a foreign university’s name appears on the programme, ask which local entity receives the money and provides the contracted teaching. An attractive partner logo does not answer those practical questions.

Ask which protection arrangement applies

The course-fee protection page distinguishes Industry-Wide Course fee insurance under the Enhanced Registration Framework from the Fee Protection Scheme under EduTrust. It also explains different collection caps. Read the category that applies to the institution instead of assuming one rule covers every private course.

Ask a focused question: “Which arrangement applies to this course and payment, and where can I verify it?” Request an explanation of how the proposed instalments fit that arrangement. Keep the answer with the dated contract; a general statement that the school is registered is not the same answer.

Verify your status rather than demanding the wrong document

TPGateway describes FPS Group Insurance with the insurance contract issued to the PEI, and directs students at EduTrust-certified PEIs to check their FPS status with the school or insurance provider. Do not assume every arrangement must produce the same individually issued certificate described on an older school webpage.

Ask what evidence confirms that your payment is included, which insurer to contact and what information it will need to identify the record. Keep receipts, instalment dates and any reference supplied. If the amount or course changes, ask how the records should be updated rather than assuming the earlier confirmation answers the new situation.

Use the appropriate route when the question is a refund

The official dispute page leads to the structured route for disagreements between students and PEIs. Use its current instructions when the issue concerns a disputed refund or contractual obligation; do not assume the fee-protection insurer automatically decides every disagreement with a school.

Prepare a short chronology: agreement signed, amount paid, classes delivered, withdrawal or closure notice, and the response received. Separate the outcome you are requesting from the evidence supporting it. Ask for clarification of the relevant clause without inventing a universal entitlement or promising that a complaint must succeed.

Your next step: put the protection explanation beside the contract

Verify the institution and course, identify the protection arrangement and ask how your payment status can be checked. Save the answer, contract and receipts together. If the issue is already a dispute, follow the official resolution route with a clear chronology rather than treating a marketing assurance as a binding outcome.

For the broader registration and recognition distinctions, continue with checking whether a private education institution is registered. The Singapore school pathways collection connects the wider education options.
