Where Can Singapore Students Find Official IELTS Academic Sample Questions?

Start with the official IELTS Academic sample-question page. It brings together Listening, Academic Reading, Academic Writing and Speaking materials, with answer resources or commentary for relevant tasks. Choose the skill you want to investigate and keep its task and answer material together.

Check the IELTS Academic format guide before choosing resources. Listening and Speaking are shared with General Training, but Reading and Writing differ. Confirm which test your intended institution requires; an Academic sample is preparation material, not confirmation that this is the right booking for every application.

Did you know the page’s computer “practice experience” is not a fully timed replica of the live test? IELTS says it is untimed and some functions work differently. Use it to become familiar with the interface, then label any separate timed practice accurately in your study notes.

What should you record before starting a sample?

Note the test type, skill, task title and purpose of the session. Decide whether you are learning the task, checking your reasoning or practising timing. A clear purpose makes a small set of questions more useful than a folder of unexplained scores.

Choose the correct test and the actual skill gap

Use the format page to identify the section you intend to practise. If your challenge is Academic Reading, select Academic material rather than assuming any IELTS reading exercise is interchangeable. For Writing, first establish which task you are attempting.

Keep the application requirement beside your preparation plan. Our overseas university English-language requirements guide routes you to that separate check. Do not let finding a convenient practice resource decide which test or evidence a university will accept.

Keep task, answer key and transcript matched

The sample page links Listening tasks with answer keys and recording transcripts. The multiple-choice answer-key example shows why the exact task label matters. An answer file for a different extract cannot tell you whether your own reasoning was sound.

Try the task before opening the answers. During review, write what caused an error: a missed instruction, an unfamiliar phrase or evidence you interpreted incorrectly. Where a transcript is available, use it to locate the difficulty rather than simply copying the correct answer and moving on.

Use examiner comments to understand a response

The official Writing response collection pairs sample work with band scores and examiner commentary. Read the comments alongside the particular response. The value is in noticing what the examiner identifies, not treating one sample as a script that fits every future question.

After reviewing it, return to your own writing and identify one passage you would improve. Keep the original and revised versions so the change is visible. If you need feedback, ask a teacher to discuss that specific choice rather than asking only whether the whole essay is “good enough”.

Separate interface familiarisation from performance evidence

The computer practice experience has a different job from a carefully controlled timed attempt. IELTS explicitly notes differences in functions such as timing, highlighting and notes. Read those limitations before interpreting the experience as a rehearsal under identical conditions.

Keep honest labels in your record: untimed familiarisation, reviewed task or timed attempt. Note whether you used a transcript, checked an answer or paused. That context helps you choose the next practice task; it should not be turned into a claimed official result or an admission guarantee.

Your next useful step

Choose one official task and attempt it with a clear purpose. Review it using the matching answer or commentary, identify one thing to repair, and select the next task accordingly. Confirm actual test arrangements through your booking provider rather than assuming a sample screen supplies those instructions.

Explore the connected learning guides

Choose the question that brought you here. Open one useful guide, try a small task, and stop when you have what you need.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Find the first point where the working stops being reliable. Find Secondary 4 A-Math mark leakage.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Two accounts of the world seem to disagree.

Check the question, source, date and evidence before combining claims. Explore the World Knowledge research library.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.
