Where Can Singapore Students Find ABET’s Accredited Program Search?

Start with ABET’s Find Programs page, which links to the ABET-Accredited Program Search. ABET describes the search as an up-to-date list of past and currently accredited programmes. Use it to investigate the exact programme being advertised, not just a university’s familiar name.

Read ABET’s explanation of accreditation before interpreting a result. ABET accredits programmes in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. It expressly distinguishes programme accreditation from accreditation of an entire institution, department or individual.

Did you know? An “ABET-accredited university” slogan can be too broad to answer your question. The useful check is whether the named programme and relevant study arrangement match the accreditation evidence. For the wider purpose of the qualification, continue with our overseas degree recognition guide; an ABET search is one specific check within that larger decision.

How do I check an ABET claim carefully?

Keep the official course description beside the search result. You are trying to match a particular educational programme, not collect a general badge for every course offered by the same institution.

Write down the full programme identity

Start with the programme title, institution, award level and where and how you will study. Search using the institution’s official name, then compare the relevant programme information with your proposed course. Similar titles should remain separate until the evidence establishes a match.

If an offer involves a different location, partner provider or study arrangement, ask whether the cited accreditation covers that arrangement. A useful enquiry includes the exact course link and intake instead of asking only whether the university is accredited.

Separate current evidence from historical accreditation

ABET’s search includes past as well as currently accredited programmes, and its explanation says accreditation is reviewed periodically rather than being permanent. A historical listing therefore needs to be read in its own context.

Read any dates, status information or explanatory notes supplied with the relevant record. If you cannot establish how they apply to your proposed study or completed qualification, ask the programme and ABET for clarification. Do not silently substitute a past status for a current claim.

Check the discipline and level

ABET’s programme-coverage page separates engineering from engineering technology and identifies different accreditation commissions and qualification levels. It also states that ABET does not accredit certification, training or doctoral programmes.

A short training certificate should not inherit the status of an accredited degree programme at the same institution. Likewise, a computing programme and an engineering programme are not interchangeable simply because both involve technology. Use the category that actually describes your intended study.

Interpret online delivery without adding promises

ABET’s Find Programs page says programmes are evaluated against the same criteria regardless of delivery method. It explains its “100% online” categorisation in terms of being able to receive all course content online.

Still check the university’s own study arrangements and entry requirements. Accreditation is not a promise about admission, employment or every recognition decision. If your question instead concerns the UK engineering route, use our separate Engineering Council course-recognition source guide rather than treating the two databases as substitutes.

What should I do next?

Save the exact programme information, official source link and date checked. If a brochure makes an ABET claim but you cannot establish a matching record, ask for a precise explanation before relying on it in your course decision.

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.
