Where Can Singapore Graduates Find Diploma Supplement Information?

For an official explanation, start with Europass’s Diploma Supplement guide and the European Commission’s overview. To obtain your own document, ask the higher education institution where you studied—normally its registry or equivalent student-records office.

A Diploma Supplement explains a higher education qualification and the system in which it was awarded. It can help a receiving university or employer understand the qualification’s level, content and results. It is not a replacement degree certificate, a CV, or an automatic recognition decision.

Did you know? “Diploma Supplement” is the name of a particular explanatory document, not a promise that every qualification called a diploma comes with one. Singapore graduates should check whether their awarding institution issues it, then follow the receiving organisation’s document instructions. Our guide to qualification comparison and recognition explains the wider distinctions.

What should I check before requesting or submitting one?

Start with two practical questions: does your institution issue this document, and does the organisation receiving your application request or accept it? The answers may save you an unnecessary document chase.

Ask the awarding institution for its process

The European Commission describes the Diploma Supplement as an institution-produced document using a shared structure. Its overview points students to their institution’s registrar or equivalent office, while noting that national practices differ.

When contacting the office, give your full award title, graduation year and student identifier through its appropriate channel. Ask whether a supplement is available for your award and cohort, how it is supplied, and which office can correct an error. Do not assume another graduate’s experience applies to your qualification.

Read the sections as an explanation of your studies

The common structure covers the qualification holder, qualification, level, study content and results, function of the qualification, additional information, certification and the national higher education system. The official template helps you recognise those categories.

Look especially carefully at the awarding institution and any different institution administering the studies. Check that the award title, study period and results agree with your other official records. An explanatory document is most useful when the underlying details line up.

Do not turn the template into a self-issued credential

The Europass PDF is a model with explanatory notes and an illustrative national context. It shows how information is organised; downloading it does not make you the issuing authority for your own academic record.

If your institution does not issue a Diploma Supplement, ask the receiving university what alternative evidence it accepts. It might have its own requirements for a transcript, grading explanation or qualification information. Follow that answer rather than relabelling an unofficial summary as an institutional document.

Keep recognition and submission requirements separate

The template’s introductory notes make clear that the supplement is not meant to provide value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition. A receiving organisation must still apply its own assessment and admission requirements.

Check its rules for originals, electronic delivery, translations and verification rather than assuming the supplement replaces everything else. Our overseas university application requirements guide helps route you to the university’s current instructions; our overseas degree recognition guide covers a different question—what recognition is needed for your intended purpose.

What should I do next?

Open the receiving organisation’s document checklist, identify the exact item it requests, and send that wording to your awarding institution’s records office. Keep its reply with your application notes so you know which document to obtain and how to submit it.
