Where Can I Find NUS Yong Siew Toh Bachelor of Music Audition Requirements?

Find NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST) Bachelor of Music audition requirements through the current How to Apply page and its linked Audition Format and Requirements. Select the Bachelor of Music (BMus) and the exact major or instrument before preparing.

Check the intake, academic qualifications, application documents and full repertoire together. At the review date, YST lists applications for August 2027 entry from 1 September to 1 December 2026. The audition page requires the applicable full recording or composition portfolio, not simply a favourite performance excerpt.

Did you know? YST’s current process includes an in-person immersion experience for shortlisted finalists. A submitted recording is part of selection, not a replacement for every later assessment. Read the live instructions before making travel or rehearsal plans.

Practical checks before you act

Use the current BMus route, not a nearby programme

The YST website also describes the Young Artist Programme and several postgraduate degrees. Even where an audition table is shared, check the degree labels attached to the relevant instrument or specialism. A requirement marked for master’s applicants should not silently become a BMus requirement.

For the BMus route, YST’s FAQ says that applying through the YST Admissions Portal does not require a separate NUS application for that programme. Follow the portal link from the current application page. An older YST admissions page remains searchable, so verify the displayed intake rather than relying on a familiar-looking page title.

Check academics separately from musical attainment

YST’s qualification page distinguishes academic-completion requirements by major. Read the section for the intended programme and your school qualification. If your examinations or graduation date do not fit the stated timing, ask admissions to confirm your situation rather than assuming all majors accept the same final-year status.

The BMus FAQ explains that external music examination certificates, such as ABRSM or Trinity certificates, are not equivalent academic-entry qualifications and are not used to assess the candidate’s performance standard. Likewise, a music diploma does not automatically shorten the BMus candidature; any credit consideration is separate.

Build a repertoire checklist before recording

The audition page provides requirements by instrument and major, including different kinds of repertoire and, where stated, memory requirements. Composition has its own portfolio instructions. Copy the relevant requirements into a personal checklist with the degree label attached, then review it with your music teacher if helpful. Audio Arts & Sciences and Music as Collaborative Practice have their own portfolio components; do not substitute an instrumental-performance checklist for those requirements.

The application-document page gives recording and file-sharing instructions. It asks for clear identification of works and movements, suitable recording quality and an accessible shared folder. Check those technical rules as carefully as the music: a well-prepared performance is not useful to an assessor who cannot open its link.

Before submitting, test the shared-folder permissions from an account that does not own the files. Keep a copy of the submitted repertoire list and materials so you can identify precisely what the panel received.

Plan for finalist immersion without assuming an offer

YST’s current audition page says that shortlisted finalists attend immersion in person and that virtual or online auditions are not offered. The experience includes interactions beyond the submitted performance. Read the invitation and the relevant calendar entry for actual arrangements; shortlisting does not establish admission.

For a family planning around examinations, work or travel, distinguish three dates: the application deadline, the recording or portfolio deadline, and the invited assessment date. Check all three on the current sources. If attendance is uncertain, contact YST before assuming that a remote substitute will be available.

Open the current BMus application page, qualification page and audition requirements together. Confirm the intake and major, assemble the academic and musical evidence requested, and check every recording link before submission.
