Where Can Singapore Students Find Hong Kong University Admission Information?

Did you know? Singapore students can begin their Hong Kong university search with the Hong Kong Education Bureau’s Study in Hong Kong admissions directory. It links to the universities’ own undergraduate admission pages and explains why entry requirements vary by institution and programme.

For applicants holding Singapore-Cambridge A-Levels, IB or other international qualifications, check the university’s international-qualifications or non-JUPAS route. Examples include HKU’s International/Non-JUPAS admissions page and HKUST’s international-qualifications page. Each institution, not a general guide, owns its application portal and course requirements.

Your immediate check is the specific degree, entry year, applicant classification and qualification pathway. A Singapore school certificate does not by itself establish local or non-local status in Hong Kong; immigration and residence circumstances can matter. Check the route before paying an application fee or preparing documents.

What to check before submitting

Sort out JUPAS, non-JUPAS and applicant status

JUPAS is associated with Hong Kong’s local HKDSE route, while institutions also provide direct routes for other qualifications. But “international qualification” and “non-local student” are not identical labels. For example, CUHK’s Non-JUPAS FAQ explains how its applicant categories work.

A family with a Hong Kong resident, dependant or other special status should use that institution’s definitions. Do not choose a category solely because the student attends school in Singapore. If the online options look ambiguous, send admissions the qualification, status and intended year and request a clear route.

Match the actual qualification to the course

A Singapore student may hold Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Levels, an IB Diploma, a polytechnic diploma or another qualification. The correct requirements are the ones published for that credential, course and entry year. Some programmes have subject prerequisites or additional evidence. A university-wide minimum is not a prediction of selection.

For example, CUHK explains that some programmes impose subject-specific requirements. HKUST separates general admission, programme-specific and English-language requirements. Check all the parts before deciding that a qualification is sufficient; if your route is not stated, contact the university rather than inventing an equivalence.

Make one calendar for each university

The application systems and assessment rounds can differ. University pages may list an early or priority round, a later period, interviews and separate document deadlines. Record the year and Hong Kong time zone beside each item. A form submitted on time can still need referee information or examination results.

Prepare a checklist of official school transcripts, predicted or final examination results, identification and any course-specific materials requested. Upload using the institution’s own system. Avoid copying document rules from an unrelated scholarship page or another university’s last-year application.

Keep offers, funding and immigration as separate decisions

Meeting a listed eligibility rule allows an application to be considered; it is not an admission guarantee. Universities separately assess offers and scholarships. A student who needs permission to enter and study in Hong Kong should follow Hong Kong’s official immigration instructions and the university’s student-visa office after confirming the correct applicant category.

If a family is comparing several programmes, record three decisions independently: admission requirements, financial affordability and permission to study. One conditional offer does not settle the remaining two. The Hong Kong Education Bureau’s How to Apply guide is a useful orientation, while individual institutions supply the working instructions.

Your next step

Choose two Hong Kong courses. Open both official admission pages and write down the qualification route, applicant category, course requirements and entry-year deadlines. Ask each admissions office one precise question if your status or credential is not addressed.

For broader comparisons, visit the overseas university application requirements guide and the English-language requirements source guide. These explain the wider process without replacing the universities’ current rules.
