Start with UCAS’s official Replying to your offers page and the deadline shown in your UCAS application. When UCAS has received the last decision from your choices, it tells you that replies are available and shows your personal response date.
A firm acceptance is your first choice. If that offer is conditional, you may also choose one insurance acceptance as a back-up; if your firm choice is unconditional, you do not have an insurance choice. All other offers must be declined when you submit your replies.
Choose with the actual offer conditions in front of you. An insurance choice should normally have conditions you are more likely to meet and must still be a course and university you would happily attend. You cannot wait for results and then freely choose between firm and insurance.
Which source answers which question?
| Question | Best source | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| What can I accept? | UCAS reply guidance | Conditional or unconditional offer |
| When must I reply? | Your UCAS application | Personal reply deadline, not a copied date |
| What does the course require? | University offer and course page | Grades, subjects, English evidence and other conditions |
| Can I correct a reply? | UCAS reply-change guidance | When the reply was submitted |
What should Singapore applicants check?
Compare the complete offer, not only its headline grades. Check every academic condition, any English-language requirement, the course content, location, likely costs and whether you would genuinely accept the insurance course if the firm conditions are missed. Immigration and funding steps come later and are not granted merely because a UCAS offer is accepted.
For 2027 entry, UCAS currently lists reply dates of 5 May, 2 June or 21 July 2027, depending on when it receives your last decision. The live application remains decisive because it shows the personal deadline. If you permanently withdraw an outstanding choice to reply early, that choice cannot be restored simply because you later change your mind.
Did you know? If you meet the firm conditions, that is the course you attend; you do not choose the insurance course instead on results day. The insurance route matters only when the firm place does not confirm and the insurance conditions are met.
Reply carefully. UCAS says applicants who made a mistake within the previous 14 days should contact it for advice. After 14 days, permissions from affected universities may be required and a change is not guaranteed; for 2027 entry, UCAS states that no reply swaps are possible after 22 July 2027.
What is the next useful step?
- Wait for all decisions or understand the consequence of withdrawing an outstanding choice.
- Copy each offer condition into a simple comparison sheet.
- Check course, cost and location details on the university’s current pages.
- Submit the firm, insurance and decline replies before the UCAS deadline shown to you.
