Start with UCAS’s official Extra choices page. For 2027 entry, UCAS says Extra is available from 25 February to 1 July 2027 for eligible applicants who have used all five original choices and are not holding an offer.
Check your UCAS Hub before planning a new choice. Extra is for applicants who have received decisions from all five choices and were unsuccessful, or who declined the offers they received. If you did not use all five choices, you may be able to add another ordinary choice instead of using Extra, subject to UCAS’s conditions and date limits.
Singapore applicants should then check the proposed course on UCAS and the university’s own admissions page. Extra creates another application route; it does not waive course prerequisites, qualification assessment, English-language evidence, tuition classification or later immigration requirements.
Which source should I use?
| Question | Best source | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Can I use Extra? | UCAS Extra choices | Five choices used, all decisions received and no offer held |
| Is the course open? | UCAS course search | Course, start year, entry requirements and availability |
| Will the university consider me? | University course and admissions pages | Qualification, subject, English and application conditions |
What should I check before adding an Extra choice?
Extra lets an eligible applicant apply to one course at a time. UCAS advises applicants to find a suitable course and contact the university or college to check whether it will consider them before adding the choice. This avoids using the single active Extra slot on a course that cannot assess the applicant’s qualification or circumstances.
Did you know? Extra does not provide an insurance choice. If an Extra offer is accepted, the applicant cannot make further Extra applications. If the applicant declines the offer, is unsuccessful, or chooses not to keep waiting after 21 days without a decision, UCAS explains when another Extra choice can be added.
Read the reply date shown in the UCAS application. UCAS states that an unanswered offer can be declined automatically after its reply deadline. Course availability and the university’s decision timetable can also change, so the live Hub and provider page outrank saved screenshots or third-party deadline lists.
What should Singapore applicants do next?
- Confirm in UCAS Hub that Extra is available to you.
- Search for a course and read the provider’s current entry conditions.
- Contact the university or college before adding the choice.
- Add only one Extra choice, monitor the decision and reply by the displayed date.
- If Extra does not produce a suitable offer, check the official Clearing route when eligible.
