Find university withdrawal information through your institution’s registrar or student administration office. An official example is the NUS withdrawal policy. Use the policy for your own student category and programme, rather than another university’s dates or process.
Before making a decision, confirm the application route, effective withdrawal date, fee liability and treatment of enrolled courses. NUS directs students to its withdrawal system in EduRec and explains how timing affects records and fees. Ask the responsible office to explain the consequences for your circumstances.
Did you know withdrawing from a university, dropping one module and taking leave of absence are different actions? If you are considering a temporary pause, read the leave of absence guide too. Speak with your faculty adviser so the administrative action matches what you intend to do.

Practical checks before you act
State the action you are considering
Write a short description of your intention: leave the programme permanently, pause temporarily, change programme or stop taking one course. Ask the faculty which process addresses that intention. An informal decision to stop attending does not tell you what the university has recorded.
Check the dates before calculating consequences
Read the current policy with the academic calendar. Ask the office which deadline and effective date apply to your case, including any unforeseen circumstances. Keep the answer in writing. Avoid importing a date from an old intake notice or assuming every semester uses the same calendar.
Ask about connected commitments
Make a list of arrangements that could need a separate check: scholarship, tuition support, loan, accommodation and immigration status. Ask the relevant provider about its own conditions. The university withdrawal process does not by itself answer every question about those separate commitments.
Keep the outcome and records
If you decide to proceed, follow the official instructions and save the confirmation. Ask how to obtain the academic records you may need later and whether any outstanding obligations remain. If you plan to apply elsewhere, confirm that institution’s admission rules separately; withdrawal does not guarantee another place.
Your next step
Read your institution’s current policy and discuss the intended action with your faculty. Confirm dates, records and connected obligations before submitting a withdrawal application.
