Find transcript instructions on the registrar or academic-services website of the university that holds the record. Start with the official pages for NUS official transcripts, NTU transcripts or SMU academic transcripts, then choose the route for your current status.
Check whether you are a current student, alumnus, exchange student or another stated applicant category before ordering. Also check the recipient’s instructions: some organisations accept a secure electronic transcript, while others specify a delivery method, recipient address, sealed copy or supporting document.
Did you know a transcript is not the same thing as a degree certificate, status letter or unofficial results view? An official transcript records academic study and results under the university’s process. At NUS, the degree title and conferment date appear only after the degree has been officially conferred, so timing matters for graduating students.

Order from the institution that owns the record
The university registrar is the authoritative source because it prepares and releases the academic record. Follow the current university page rather than an old forum post: request channels, identity checks, delivery options and processing arrangements can change.
Current students and alumni may see different portals. Exchange students or former students from older systems may also have a separate route. NTU notes that outstanding obligations can affect processing, so resolve any stated account restriction before treating a request as complete.
Ask what document the recipient actually needs
A transcript may show coursework and grades by term, academic history and programme information. It does not automatically replace a degree scroll, enrolment or graduation-status letter, co-curricular record, certified translation or professional verification. The recipient decides what evidence satisfies its purpose.
For an application checklist, use our guide to university application documents. If the question is whether a qualification is accepted for a job or regulated profession, follow the separate degree-recognition route; possession of a transcript does not guarantee recognition or selection.
What to check before requesting
- The university and exact student category.
- Whether official or unofficial records are requested.
- Electronic, direct-to-recipient, sealed or other delivery instructions.
- Whether the degree has already been conferred.
- The recipient name, address, deadline and reference number.
- Any current hold or outstanding obligation shown by the university.
For pre-university national examination records, use the separate guide to past PSLE and GCE results. Those records are not university transcripts.
Your next step
Copy the recipient’s transcript requirement first. Then open the issuing university’s registrar page, select the correct student category and submit through the official channel. Keep the request confirmation and delivery reference, and allow time for the recipient to match the record to your application.
