Did you know? The university’s official course page should tell you whether an admission test is needed; the test provider explains how to take it. Begin with the course requirements for your qualification and entry year before booking SAT, ACT, UCAT or another assessment.
For UK courses, UCAS’s admissions-test guide directs applicants to course-specific checks. For SAT and ACT logistics, use College Board and ACT’s international registration guidance. A test provider’s calendar does not establish that a particular university requires or accepts your score.
Your next step is to make a course-by-course record of the test policy, accepted test version, registration deadline and score-submission instructions. For medicine or dentistry, verify the required test with the university and the relevant consortium. UCAT’s university guidance explicitly asks applicants to check course requirements before booking.

Which source answers your question?
| Your question | Start here | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Decide whether a test is needed | The university’s official course and applicant-category pages | Required, optional or other stated policy for the intended intake |
| Find UK admission-test routes | UCAS admissions tests | Course-specific assessment and its registration process |
| Register for SAT | College Board SAT registration | Current dates, location, identification and score reporting |
| Check international ACT logistics | ACT international registration guidance | Country-specific dates, centres and official registration route |
| Check UCAT use | UCAT university guidance | Relevant course, test jurisdiction and application cycle |
Make the policy check course-specific
Record the university, course, applicant qualification and entry year. Read any conditions that distinguish applicant groups or programmes.
If the page does not answer your case, ask admissions before paying for a test. Keep its clarification with the published requirements rather than relying on a general statement about the country.
Separate test registration from university submission
UCAS notes that some admission-test registration deadlines fall before the UCAS application deadline. Put both dates in your calendar.
Also check how results reach the university and which sitting it will consider. Completing a test and submitting an application are separate tasks with their own instructions.
Check the right test and location
For SAT, use College Board’s current dates and international-testing information. For ACT, check the available dates and centres through the provider’s international route.
For a clinical admissions test, distinguish UK or partner-university UCAT instructions from UCAT ANZ requirements. Ask the intended university which test applies instead of choosing from a familiar name.
Prepare after the requirement is clear
Open the test provider’s official preparation materials and current format information. Check identification, equipment and access-arrangement instructions where relevant.
Build preparation around the assessments actually needed. Keep English-language evidence as a separate course-requirement check; an admission test does not automatically resolve every language condition.
