Where Can I Find JC Entry Requirements and Subject Combinations? | Official Sources for Singapore Students

Did you know? Finding JC information is easier when you separate admission, subject combinations and university prerequisites. Begin with MOE’s post-secondary admissions guidance for the entry route, then use the JC’s official website for the combinations it actually offers.

For A-Level subject learning, use MOE’s A-Level curriculum and subject syllabuses and follow the appropriate examination information. H1, H2 and H3 are subject-level labels; they do not by themselves tell you which subjects a particular JC will allow you to combine.

Write your intended JC intake year and possible degree interests before comparing options. Check admissions for that year, school combination conditions, and the degree course’s own prerequisites. You can then ask a much more useful question than “Which combination is best?”

Begin at the destination, then work backwards

If a student has a possible degree interest, locate that course’s published entry requirements first. Record the exact subject and level named. Then check whether the JC offers a suitable combination and what its own conditions are.

This does not require choosing a lifetime career at sixteen. It simply helps you notice whether a planned combination keeps a possible route available. When interests remain broad, compare several plausible destinations rather than optimise for one guessed future.

Read the school’s combination information carefully

A subject appearing in a national syllabus list is different from a combination appearing in a school’s booklet. Ask which combinations are offered for the intended cohort and whether relevant prerequisites or conditions apply.

Bring the student into the decision. Consider interest, existing work, learning habits and the demands of the proposed subjects. A combination that looks impressive on paper still needs to be workable through ordinary weeks.

Separate course information from application instructions

The curriculum page answers what a subject covers. The admissions page answers how to apply. The college’s notices answer what that institution offers and how it handles its own process.

An enquiry might read: “I am planning for the stated intake and considering these subjects. Where can I find the current combination conditions?” That gives the school a concrete question, without asking it to infer a full plan from a score alone.

Check the intake year, especially around the SEC transition

Do not apply older entry guidance automatically to a post-SEC intake. MOE has separate post-secondary admissions guidance for the new pathway, and published revised JC admission criteria for 2028.

Return to the live official pages when the relevant application exercise opens. Confirm the actual instructions, deadlines and school information for that intake.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.
