From supported reading to independent comprehension

At first, students may need questions that guide them toward sequence, motive, cause and effect or inference. Over time, those prompts should reduce.

The student should begin to recognise what matters in a passage without being told where to look every time.

Sentence control before ambitious writing

Composition improves faster when sentence control is stable. Students need to write complete, grammatically sound sentences before they can manage pacing, description and complex narrative structure reliably.

We therefore repair recurring sentence problems while gradually expanding the student’s range.

Vocabulary that becomes usable

We teach words through themes, reading and repeated application. Students need to know meaning, tone and context so vocabulary becomes part of their active language rather than a list remembered only for a test.
