The PSLE English Comprehension Paper 2, designed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB), is a crucial component of the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). It aims to evaluate a student’s ability to comprehend written texts, interpret meaning, and apply language skills across various text types.

The Open-ended Comprehension requires students to read a passage and answer questions in full sentences. This part evaluates their ability to extract relevant information, interpret text, and express their understanding in their own words, thus combining comprehension skills with written expression.
Finally, the Visual Text Comprehension section presents students with visual and textual elements, such as advertisements or brochures. Students must interpret and analyse the given information, considering both the visual and written cues. This section assesses the students’ ability to interpret multi-modal texts and understand how visual and linguistic elements work together to convey meaning.
The complexity and broad scope of the PSLE English Paper 2 mirror the demands of the real-world language use, preparing students for future academic pursuits and everyday communication.
