Did you know? SEAB’s Access Arrangements page explains examination support, application routes and evidence requirements in one place. Start there for a PSLE, secondary or A-Level examination question, then check the instructions for the actual examination year.
School candidates apply through their school. Ask the designated SEN officer, access-arrangements coordinator or form teacher about the next step. Private candidates follow SEAB’s Candidates Portal instructions after examination registration. Use the route for your candidate status rather than submitting through a different process.
Your immediate next step is to identify the difficulty experienced under standard examination conditions and ask what supporting information is required. Read the current evidence and deadline instructions before arranging reports. A diagnosis does not automatically determine the arrangement approved for a particular paper.

Which source answers your question?
| Your question | Start here | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Understand examination support | SEAB Access Arrangements | Guiding principles, arrangements and application requirements |
| Apply as a school candidate | The school’s SEN officer, AA coordinator or form teacher | School submission process and supporting information |
| Apply as a private candidate | SEAB private-candidate guide | Registration, portal submission and current deadline |
| Resolve a specific question | SEAB access-arrangements FAQs | Evidence, outcome and examination instructions |
Describe the examination barrier clearly
Note what happens during a timed paper: for example, difficulty accessing print or recording answers. Ask the school how classroom and assessment observations will be documented.
Describe the difficulty and support already used, rather than choosing an arrangement from another student’s experience. This gives the responsible team a concrete question to investigate.
Read the evidence requirements for the request
SEAB’s guidance distinguishes medical documentation and educational inputs. It also identifies requests for which a current profile of needs is required.
Check the exact requirement before booking an assessment solely for the application. Ask the school or SEAB whether existing records meet the relevant instructions and what additional information is needed.
Keep different examination systems separate
For SEC, use SEAB’s guidance and the applicable subject syllabus. For an international examination, consult the relevant awarding body and school instead of assuming SEAB’s procedure applies.
Record the exam board, subject code, year and candidate status beside the support enquiry. A classroom adjustment may need a separate approval process for a national examination.
Read the outcome and implementation details
When the outcome arrives, check the papers and arrangements covered. Ask the school or SEAB to clarify any condition that is unclear before examination day.
Keep the approved instructions with the examination record. Read SEAB’s explanation of certificate annotations where relevant, then prepare with the support that has actually been confirmed.
