Three students in school uniforms work through open books at a classroom table, with textbooks and stationery nearby and study notes on the whiteboard behind them.

Where Can I Check Singapore University Entry Requirements for International Qualifications? | Applicant Categories and Course Conditions

Did you know? Singapore university entry requirements should be checked by both qualification and applicant category. Start with each university’s official admissions directory. NUS and NTU provide routes to their qualification-specific requirements.

At NUS, the directory distinguishes international qualifications for foreigners from those for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, and lists IB Diploma separately. Choose the route that actually matches you. Where the school is located does not by itself identify the correct admissions category.

Your immediate next step is to record the full qualification name, citizenship or residency category, graduation date and intended course. Check the qualification-specific requirements, programme prerequisites and submission dates together. Ask the university about an unlisted qualification instead of converting your grades into a Singapore score yourself.

Use the exact qualification name

Record the awarding body and full qualification title as they appear on the transcript. Qualifications called A-Level, a high school diploma or a baccalaureate can belong to different systems.

Open the university’s matching page and note whether it distinguishes completed qualifications from results still pending. If the match is unclear, provide the admissions office with the exact name and expected completion date.

Read university and programme requirements together

Qualification acceptance is one part of the check. The intended programme may also require particular subjects or additional selection steps.

For each course, record where its prerequisites are published. Check any language or additional test conditions on the relevant qualification page rather than assuming the same test is required of every applicant.

Keep result dates beside document deadlines

Check when the university expects final results and how updates should be submitted. A school’s graduation date and the admissions document deadline may be different.

Prepare the requested records in the stated format. Save the submission acknowledgement and use the official applicant portal to track requests for further information.

Disclose previous university study

Read the university’s instructions if you currently attend or previously attended another university. NUS states that Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents with such study must apply as transfer applicants.

Ask separately about admission and any possible credit recognition. NTU also cautions that meeting minimum application requirements does not guarantee admission. Use the official conditions to build an informed application plan.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Find the first point where the working stops being reliable. Find Secondary 4 A-Math mark leakage.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Two accounts of the world seem to disagree.

Check the question, source, date and evidence before combining claims. Explore the World Knowledge research library.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.
