Where Can Students Find Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad Registration Information?

Find Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad (SJPO) registration information on the Institute of Physics Singapore’s official SJPO page. The organiser invites schools and does not accept individual applications, so an interested student should approach the school’s teacher-in-charge.

Check the year’s notice before asking to register. On 18 October 2026, the page still lists the completed 2026 event on 21 May and its 2 April registration deadline. Those dates are historical, not a currently open entry window or a confirmed 2027 timetable.

Students at international schools based in Singapore should also read the organiser’s international-school instructions. That route still runs through the school, with principal approval and academic-level conditions; it is not a separate individual-entry option.

Practical checks before you act

Ask the school about entry, not just interest

Start with a practical message: name SJPO, give your school year and ask who coordinates participation. An expression of interest to a teacher is a useful first step, but it is not itself confirmation that a registration has been submitted.

Ask separately about the school’s selection process, parent-consent arrangements and current timetable. Keep that reply rather than relying on a classmate’s previous-year experience. This also gives the teacher a chance to discuss whether the activity fits your present workload.

Match international-school conditions precisely

The international-school page applies to schools based in Singapore. It specifies an academic level equivalent to Singapore Secondary 1–5 in the competition year. The school coordinates registration, payment and invigilation; a parent should not interpret a different curriculum’s year label without checking its equivalence.

Ask the school coordinator to resolve any uncertainty about your academic level or the relevant invitation. Read any year-specific instructions with the school before submitting personal details. Eligibility for this competition is a different question from admission to a Singapore school or immigration permission.

Read the actual syllabus before collecting resources

Did you know? The syllabus currently linked by IPS is labelled “since 2018”. Its guidance says explicit calculus is not required, although calculus-based solutions are acceptable. It also explains that questions can combine concepts and may introduce higher-level physics with hints.

Read that opening guidance alongside the topic list. Mark areas you recognise, areas you have not studied and areas where the mathematics feels uncertain. This personal inventory is a planning tool, not an official selection test or a prediction of an award.

Keep samples, equipment rules and current instructions separate

The organiser’s sample PDF contains questions and an answer key. Use it to see how a problem is presented, not to infer the precise length or structure of a future paper. Samples and a forthcoming event notice do different jobs.

The main SJPO page permits non-programmable scientific calculators and excludes graphing calculators and other electronic devices. Check the current instructions again before the event. For learning, try a sample independently, then discuss the physical assumptions and units behind your answer rather than memorising the answer letter.

What to do next

Bookmark the IPS event page and syllabus, then contact your teacher-in-charge with your academic level and one clear question about the next school entry process. If no new-year notice is published, keep dates provisional instead of extrapolating from 2026.

Explore the connected learning guides

Choose the question that brought you here. Open one useful guide, try a small task, and stop when you have what you need.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Find the first point where the working stops being reliable. Find Secondary 4 A-Math mark leakage.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Two accounts of the world seem to disagree.

Check the question, source, date and evidence before combining claims. Explore the World Knowledge research library.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.

For the structure behind these connections, read the eduKateSingapore runtime manifest and the eduKate ecosystem boot contract. The reader map describes public navigation; those manifests preserve the wider ownership and return rules.
