Where Can Singapore Students Check Brunei University Admissions Without Using HECAS?

Did you know? Brunei’s official Higher Education Centralised Admission System (HECAS) specifically says international applicants are not required to apply through HECAS. For a student applying from Singapore as an international applicant, start with that notice, then use the university’s own admissions page rather than opening a domestic HECAS form by default.

For Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), open Applying to UBD. It directs undergraduate candidates to its online admissions system and explains uploads, submission and requirements for international applicants. HECAS, in contrast, names a dual-application requirement for certain Brunei local applicants. Citizenship and application classification, not the location of your secondary school alone, decide which route applies.

Your first check is the intake, programme, nationality or residence status and exact qualification. UBD’s entry requirements are competitive and programme-specific, and its admission portal instructions should be read before submitting. A scholarship application and any post-offer immigration permission are separate decisions.

Practical checks before submitting

HECAS is not the universal international admissions portal

HECAS is a Brunei Ministry of Education system for applications to participating local higher education institutions. Its current international-applicants notice says those applicants do not have to use HECAS and directs them to institution-owned routes. Do not treat the domestic login page as proof that a foreign applicant must register there.

The UBD site separately specifies that local pre-service applicants with certain Brunei identity-card categories must complete both HECAS and UBD’s admissions application. If you have Brunei citizenship or another special status while studying in Singapore, seek classification advice from the institution rather than following guidance meant for foreign applicants.

Saved is not submitted

UBD asks applicants to upload certified identification, academic and language evidence through the university application. It warns that a saved but unsubmitted form will not be processed after the deadline. Keep the application reference and a record of the successful submission rather than relying on a browser draft.

Its admissions page also lists a security-clearance letter for international applicants. Check directly with UBD which issuing authority and document format are appropriate to your nationality and current intake; do not invent a document or send sensitive papers through an unofficial intermediary.

Read qualifications by programme

UBD publishes general English and academic requirements alongside subject-specific conditions, including different requirements for health sciences. A Singapore-Cambridge A-Level, IB Diploma or polytechnic diploma should be described accurately. Do not assume that an equivalent qualification or score conversion has been approved until the university confirms the particular route.

The university states that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee entry. Record the faculty, intended programme, qualification category and relevant prerequisite subjects before asking admissions a question.

Separate scholarships, fees and immigration

UBD’s undergraduate fees and funding page distinguishes fee-paying international students from scholarship possibilities. Brunei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posts the Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship for Foreign Students separately. A published scholarship category is not an individual award.

After an offer, read UBD’s new-student instructions for acceptance, required insurance and international student forms. An admission offer is not, by itself, permission to enter or remain in Brunei for study. Keep those actions in separate checklist rows.

Your next step

Choose one Brunei degree and check its next intake. Match your citizenship and qualification to the current institution instructions. If you are an international applicant, begin from the university’s own route; if your status is uncertain, ask admissions whether HECAS is required before making an account.

For the wider comparison, use Overseas University Application Requirements and Overseas Student Visa Information. Those explain general decisions; the Brunei institution controls its own entry and document instructions.
