Start with UCAS’s application guide for parents, carers and guardians. Its nominated access section explains how an applicant can name someone in Contact details to discuss the application on their behalf.
UCAS says the nominated person can contact UCAS or the universities applied to about application status. They should have the applicant’s Personal ID available and be ready for security questions. Nominated access is an official authorisation route; it is not a reason to share account passwords.
Your next step is to decide whether you want a parent, guardian or adviser to help with these conversations, then read the current application instructions. For a Singapore applicant managing school, work or another commitment, agree beforehand what help you want and which decisions you will handle yourself.

Practical checks before you act
Agree on the helper’s role
Choose someone you trust to communicate accurately and keep personal information private. Discuss the practical job: checking an unresolved status question, asking for clarification or relaying an answer. Make sure both of you understand the request before anyone contacts the admissions team.
Keep a shared question list
Write the institution, course, application year and exact question on one page. Add the date and outcome after a call. This helps you distinguish an answer that was confirmed by admissions from a suggestion made during family planning.
Protect account access
Keep your password and security information private. Use the nominated access route described by UCAS and check what the receiving institution permits. If a helper cannot complete an action, ask the official team about the proper process rather than giving someone unrestricted account access.
Stay involved in the application
Read messages yourself and keep your contact details current. Ask the helper to report the answer rather than interpret it as an offer or permission that was never given. Before a consequential change, check the official instructions and make sure your own intention is clear.
