Where Can Singapore Students Find Common App Essay Prompt Information?

Use Common App’s official first-year essay prompts page for the current cycle. For applicants using the 2026–2027 application, confirm that the page is labelled 2026–2027 before planning around a prompt copied from a previous year.

Then check each college inside Common App and on its official admissions website. Common App explains that a college may make the main personal essay required or optional, while college-specific questions and writing supplements are separate requirements. One prompt list does not show the whole writing workload.

Keep the cycle, college and writing component attached to every task. The personal essay is not the same as a short answer, portfolio statement or supplemental essay, and a saved response does not prove that a college still asks the same question this year.

What should applicants check immediately?

Create one row for every college and record four separate items: the main personal-essay requirement, college-specific short answers, any writing supplement and the submission deadline. Open the live application because some requirements depend on the college or on answers given elsewhere in the form.

Choose a personal-essay prompt only after identifying the story, experience or idea that reveals something useful about the applicant. The prompt is a doorway, not the destination. Keep the response truthful, specific and recognisably the student’s own work, then use the official form’s displayed limits and preview before submission.

Did you know? Common App accounts can roll over from year to year, but its first-year guide advises applicants to begin college-specific questions, writing supplements or portfolios only when they intend to apply in that application year. Saved work and current requirements are not the same thing.

Recheck the checklist after adding or removing a college and again before submission. A college’s writing requirement can be easy to miss when it appears in a separate section or is triggered by another answer. Treat every required component as its own task, with its own final preview.
