Three students in school uniforms work through open books at a classroom table, with textbooks and stationery nearby and study notes on the whiteboard behind them.

Where Can I Find Education and Career Guidance Information in Singapore? | ECG and MySkillsFuture

Start with the official MySkillsFuture Student Portal. It provides level-specific routes for primary, secondary and pre-university students, while Institute of Technical Education, polytechnic and university students are directed to the adult and tertiary MySkillsFuture route.

Choose the student’s current level before using an assessment or comparing pathways. The portal’s tools are designed to support self-discovery, education exploration and career planning at different stages; a Primary 5 activity is not the same as a pre-university decision tool.

Use online results as conversation starters, not automatic verdicts. A student’s interests, strengths, values, subject readiness, qualification route and changing goals all matter. School teachers and Education and Career Guidance counsellors can help turn a portal result into sensible next questions and actions.

Use tools for exploration

Education and Career Guidance is not a one-time choice of job title. It helps students notice interests and strengths, understand education routes, learn about work and make plans that can be reviewed. The MySkillsFuture portal reflects this by offering different tools and information at different education stages.

Did you know that a career-profile result is useful even when it does not name the final answer? It can reveal questions to test: Does the student enjoy the activity itself? What subjects or qualifications support the route? What does the work involve day to day? Which alternatives use similar strengths?

Connect information to a real pathway

Move from a broad interest to current official requirements. If a student is exploring a polytechnic course, check MOE CourseFinder and the polytechnic’s own page. If the route is ITE, JC or university, use the corresponding institution and admissions source. Interest helps choose what to investigate; it does not replace eligibility or selection.

Keep opportunity and guarantee separate. A course may lead to several careers, and a career may be reached through several education routes. Labour-market descriptions can change, so the next useful step is often a small test—speak with an ECG counsellor, attend an official event, compare modules or try a relevant activity.

What to do next

Open MySkillsFuture with the student and choose one education or career question to investigate. Bring the resulting questions to a teacher or ECG counsellor, then verify any course requirement at its official source. For a map of Singapore routes, use eduKate’s school pathways calendar and ITE, polytechnic and university progression guide.

Explore the connected learning guides

Choose the question that brought you here. Open one useful guide, try a small task, and stop when you have what you need.

Take one question further

The same learning habit can travel across subjects, while each subject keeps its own methods. These routes help you notice a difficulty, understand one part of it, and return to something you can do.

A word is familiar, but using it is difficult.

Move from recognising a word to retrieving it in a new context. Understand vocabulary plateaus.

Try it without the guide: Choose one word you already know. Close the guide and use it in a new sentence. Explain why it fits; try another context tomorrow.

A piece of writing has ideas, but the reader loses the thread.

Make the order of events and the links between sentences clear. Explore composition writing.

Try it without the guide: Choose one short paragraph. Read the relevant explanation, close it, and revise the paragraph. Ask someone to tell you what happened and why.

The Mathematics seems familiar, but marks still disappear.

Find the first point where the working stops being reliable. Find Secondary 4 A-Math mark leakage.

Try it without the guide: For a Secondary 4 A-Math question you have attempted, locate the first uncertain line. Repair that step, then try a comparable question without the worked answer.

A Science fact is remembered, but the explanation is incomplete.

Connect the evidence to a scientific idea and the resulting change. Follow the Primary Science learning route.

Try it without the guide: Choose a familiar Primary Science example. Explain the evidence, the idea and the result without notes. Then change one condition and explain your prediction.

Two accounts of the world seem to disagree.

Check the question, source, date and evidence before combining claims. Explore the World Knowledge research library.

Try it without the guide: Take one claim. Find the source best placed to support it, note its date, and state what remains uncertain. Return to your original question.

There is plenty of help, but independence is hard to see.

Check what the learner can understand and do after support is removed. Understand how education works.

Try it without the guide: Choose one small task the child has practised. Agree on a calm, brief attempt without prompts. Use what happens to choose one next step, then stop.
