Did You Know a Tadpole Grows Lungs While Its Tail Disappears?
A tadpole begins life looking far more like a tiny fish than a frog.
It swims with a tail.
It lives in water.
Then its body begins to change.
Hind legs grow.
Front legs appear.
Lungs develop for breathing above water.
The tail is gradually absorbed into the body.
The animal is not simply getting larger.

Water quality, temperature, food availability and species biology all affect development.
