Wait, What? A Beetle Larva May Not Look Like a Beetle at All

Many beetle larvae look like grubs. They can look so different from adult beetles that a learner may think they are unrelated animals.

Primary 3 goal: recognise the beetle life cycle as egg → larva → pupa → adult and compare this pattern with insects that use a nymph stage instead.

The beetle is one of the animal life cycles named in Primary 3 Science. Its sequence is useful because it shares the broad egg → larva → pupa → adult pattern with butterflies and mosquitoes.

The larva is the feeding and growing young stage. Many beetle larvae are grub-like and look very different from the adult beetle.
