Parents Guide to PSLE Results and Choosing Secondary Schools by Area | Changi

Changi parents choosing secondary schools after the 2026 PSLE should not assume that a school with Changi in its name is inside the Changi planning area. Changkat Changi Secondary School is at 23 Simei Street 3 in Tampines, while the eastern schools that may suit Changi Village, Loyang, Upper Changi and the airport-side neighbourhoods are spread across Tampines and Pasir Ris. Six schools worth comparing are Changkat Changi Secondary, East Spring Secondary, Ngee Ann Secondary, Dunman Secondary, Hai Sing Catholic and Loyang View Secondary. Their historical 2026-entry Posting Group 3 last-posted scores were 22, 22, 12, 14, 15 and 22 respectively.

For Secondary 1 entry in 2027, those score figures are previous-cohort outcomes, not guaranteed admission cut-offs. Changkat Changi offers aviation-related STEM learning; East Spring develops Health Sciences; Ngee Ann offers broad discovery electives; Dunman explores technology-supported learning; Hai Sing Catholic has robotics and engineering; and Loyang View focuses on sustainability. The child’s actual Posting Group, academic support needs, interests, school culture and a weekday trip from the family’s real Changi home should decide the final six preferences.

Quick summary for parents
• Changi does not currently have a mainstream Secondary 1 school with a published cut-off inside its airfield-and-coastal planning area; compare nearby eligible schools.
• Main options to investigate: Changkat Changi (PG3 22), East Spring (22), Ngee Ann (12), Dunman Secondary (14), Hai Sing Catholic (15), Loyang View (22), using 2026-entry historical scores.
• All six named schools are co-educational mainstream schools; Ngee Ann has a specific affiliated-primary route that must be verified.
• School emphases differ: flight and aerospace, health science, discovery electives, digital learning, robotics, and environmental sustainability.
• Check Changi Village, Loyang, Upper Changi, Simei and Pasir Ris journeys separately; no school name guarantees an easy airport-side commute.

What Changi parents should do before choosing a secondary school

The useful starting point is the child’s PSLE result slip. Read the overall PSLE Score, the Achievement Level in each of the four subjects, the eligible Posting Group and any applicable language information before asking which school is famous. That document tells you the child’s initial admission possibilities. It does not tell you which school will help the child learn, what a teacher does when an answer is wrong, how friendships form or whether a long journey will leave the student too tired to study.

This article is prepared on 1 November 2026 for Primary 6 families choosing Secondary 1 entry in 2027. The 2026 PSLE results have not yet been released, and the 2027-intake final cut-off points cannot exist before the posting exercise is processed. The earlier scores in this guide come from the 2025 PSLE cohort posted into Secondary 1 in 2026. Use MOE SchoolFinder to verify the exact school and current available historical data, and use MOE’s S1 Posting guidance for the current exercise’s rules and dates.

Talk to the child before making a final ranking. Ask what kind of class helps them learn, which subject they enjoy, what is difficult, which CCA matters and how much daily travelling they can sustain. Some pupils learn best by making and testing; others thrive when reading, arguing or creating. A school with an interesting niche still needs clear teaching of every core subject. Every preferred option should be one the child could imagine attending on an ordinary Tuesday in Term 3.

Secondary schools to compare from Changi: 2026-entry historical scores

This is an area-based discovery shortlist, not a league table. Several schools below are in adjacent planning areas rather than inside Changi itself; their locality and route are identified so parents do not mistakenly treat a school-name match as a geographical or admission advantage. The numbers reflect the last student posted in an earlier relevant PG3 or IP route. A smaller PSLE total is stronger, but the number says little about pastoral care or how a particular learner will improve.

School and programmeEarlier last-posted result — 2026 Secondary 1 entryWhat to investigate
Changkat Changi Secondary School — Co-educational four-year mainstream Full SBB, physically in Simei (Tampines)PG3 22SOAR aviation and aerospace STEM, flight and drone work, community leadership
East Spring Secondary School — Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in TampinesPG3 22Health Science, human-centred investigation and responsible use of AI
Ngee Ann Secondary School — Co-educational autonomous mainstream Full SBB in TampinesPG3 12 (non-affiliated)YANAS Skills Discovery Electives, technopreneurship, STEM, arts and language exploration
Dunman Secondary School — Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in Tampines; not Dunman High SchoolPG3 14Digital and AI literacy, integrated technology and digital responsibility
Hai Sing Catholic School — Co-educational government-aided Catholic secondary in Pasir RisPG3 15Robotics, engineering, future cities and leadership
Loyang View Secondary School — Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in Pasir RisPG3 22Sustainability, energy-related design, sport and outdoor character learning

Consider the phrase last-posted score carefully. If a previous PG3 score range ended at 20, a child with PSLE Score 18 has the stronger total and is not excluded because their score is ‘below’ the lower end of the range. A child with exactly 20 is not guaranteed entry in a different cohort. The 2027 last-posted score may change because applicants’ results, preferences, places and tie-breakers differ. The best use of a score table is to plan a plausible variety of preferred choices.

A closer look at each Changi family’s school options

Changkat Changi Secondary School

Where and what: 23 Simei Street 3, Singapore 529894. Co-educational four-year mainstream Full SBB, physically in Simei (Tampines). Changkat Changi’s SOAR Applied Learning Programme has a longer-established aviation and aerospace direction. Students can investigate flight, engineering constraints and technology that affects the aerospace industry. The school also describes community-youth leadership and talent-area DSA routes. Its official 2026 open-house information lists the campus at Simei Street 3. That address is particularly important: being named Changkat Changi does not place the school in Changi Village or at Changi Airport.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? A pupil who enjoys flight, physics or solving technical problems might connect strongly with the theme. Yet the family should examine the ordinary Mathematics and Science teaching as carefully as the aviation demonstrations. Some advanced aerospace activities or DSA opportunities are selected, and they are not automatically offered to every Secondary 1 student. From Changi Village the trip is quite different from a journey starting at Simei MRT.

Ask at the school: What does every Sec 1 pupil do in the basic SOAR programme, what later aviation opportunities are selected, and what is the correct home-to-gate route? Follow up with questions about an ordinary Sec 1 timetable, the amount of compulsory project work, classroom support under Full Subject-Based Banding, and how students receive help with difficult English and Mathematics topics. An attractive programme is not enough unless a child can learn its prerequisites and feel comfortable with the wider school community.

One reliable comparison is to ask what happens when an ordinary pupil makes a mistake. Does the teacher identify exactly what was misunderstood? Does the pupil see a worked model and get another opportunity to try independently? Are there useful ways to get help outside a large group? These details matter as much as the headline programme, because daily improvement often depends on patient correction rather than an award-winning showcase.

Official information: Changkat Changi Secondary School school or programme page. Review its current school profile and the 2027 cohort’s actual course or programme conditions before making a live choice.

East Spring Secondary School

Where and what: 30 Tampines Street 34, Singapore. Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in Tampines. The school’s May 2026 Applied Learning Programme presents real health and medical questions as a way to teach scientific observation, testing, design and evaluation. AI and digital tools may support the investigation, but the underlying work is scientific reasoning. It asks students to link a community problem to evidence, experiment and interpretation rather than treat new technology as the answer by itself.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? A child curious about healthcare, human biology or why medical devices work may find this motivating. Parents can ask how the school helps a student unfamiliar with research methods or weaker in Mathematics, and what opportunities exist to enjoy music, sports and leadership alongside the science-focused ALP. Its Tampines campus may be easier for some Upper Changi families than a school along Pasir Ris Street 11.

Ask at the school: Which Health Sciences experiences reach all Secondary 1 pupils and how does the school help them distinguish evidence from fashionable AI claims? Follow up with questions about an ordinary Sec 1 timetable, the amount of compulsory project work, classroom support under Full Subject-Based Banding, and how students receive help with difficult English and Mathematics topics. An attractive programme is not enough unless a child can learn its prerequisites and feel comfortable with the wider school community.

Ngee Ann Secondary School

Where and what: 1 Tampines Street 32, Singapore. Co-educational autonomous mainstream Full SBB in Tampines. Ngee Ann Secondary’s YouNG Academy invites pupils to explore structured interest-based electives, while other school programmes develop academic, artistic and entrepreneurial capabilities. Families should distinguish a shared introductory experience from selective talent-development groups. The school has a recognised affiliation with Ngee Ann Primary School, but eligibility, choice order and minimum scores must be checked according to current MOE rules.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? A pupil who is capable across several subjects but has not yet found one favourite specialism might respond to a broad set of electives. The family should ask what a pupil may genuinely try in Sec 1, whether academic stretch and remediation are both available, and whether an airport-side journey to Tampines Street 32 is practical. The earlier non-affiliated last-posted score of 12 was relatively selective, which says nothing certain about 2027.

Ask at the school: What activities can all pupils choose through the discovery electives, which are selective, and what are the current affiliation conditions? Follow up with questions about an ordinary Sec 1 timetable, the amount of compulsory project work, classroom support under Full Subject-Based Banding, and how students receive help with difficult English and Mathematics topics. An attractive programme is not enough unless a child can learn its prerequisites and feel comfortable with the wider school community.

Dunman Secondary School

Where and what: 21 Tampines Street 45, Singapore 529093. Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in Tampines; not Dunman High School. Dunman Secondary has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2024–2027 and describes digital tools used across teaching, assessment and student learning. Its current ICT programme introduces foundational productivity and responsible computing skills, with further coding, app-making and digital projects later. It is not Dunman High School’s six-year SAP-IP, which is a separate institution in Kallang.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? A child who enjoys technology may appreciate constructive use of digital tools, but a family should ask whether screen time supports understanding or merely produces more digital worksheets. Understand how a student who struggles with attention, writing or algebra is supported. The actual campus is at Tampines Street 45, so a Changi household should verify the exact public transport route.

Ask at the school: How does the school balance digital learning with reading, reasoning and handwriting, and what support exists for pupils who struggle with self-management?

Official information: Dunman Secondary School school or programme page. Review its current school profile and the 2027 cohort’s actual course or programme conditions before making a live choice.

Hai Sing Catholic School

Where and what: 9 Pasir Ris Drive 6, Singapore. Co-educational government-aided Catholic secondary in Pasir Ris. Hai Sing Catholic offers Applied Learning in robotics and engineering with urban or future-city applications. A child may encounter problems about how a machine can move, sense, calculate or serve a human need. The Catholic educational ethos matters to the wider school community, and any subject options, costs or selected talent areas should be checked on the current profile.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? For families closer to Loyang or Pasir Ris than to Simei, this can be a sensible alternative to investigate. A student who likes building systems may be interested, while a parent should ask how the curriculum develops reading, mathematics and science foundations as well as projects. Do not choose simply because the school sounds closer to the airport; test the actual Pasir Ris Drive 6 route.

Ask at the school: What is taught to the whole first-year cohort in engineering, and how are different academic learning needs supported? Follow up with questions about an ordinary Sec 1 timetable, the amount of compulsory project work, classroom support under Full Subject-Based Banding, and how students receive help with difficult English and Mathematics topics. An attractive programme is not enough unless a child can learn its prerequisites and feel comfortable with the wider school community.

Loyang View Secondary School

Where and what: 12 Pasir Ris Street 11, Singapore. Co-educational mainstream Full SBB in Pasir Ris. Loyang View’s 2026 learning identity combines environmental sustainability with the development of confidence through sport and outdoor activity. Design thinking and careful testing of ideas can give pupils access to authentic STEM problems, while more advanced talent opportunities are separate from universal experiences. The current school should not be confused with the former Loyang Secondary before past mergers.

What kind of pupil might find it useful? A child who values practical environmental learning and physical activity may enjoy the school. Families near the Loyang industrial or residential boundary should check actual buses and walking rather than estimate from the similar names Loyang View and Loyang Avenue. Confirm what a pupil experiences in normal class, not only what the highest-performing project team produces.

Ask at the school: How does a Sec 1 class investigate an energy or sustainability issue, and which sports or STEM activities are open to beginners? Follow up with questions about an ordinary Sec 1 timetable, the amount of compulsory project work, classroom support under Full Subject-Based Banding, and how students receive help with difficult English and Mathematics topics. An attractive programme is not enough unless a child can learn its prerequisites and feel comfortable with the wider school community.

The geography problem: what Changi means on a school map

Changi is both a geographic planning area and an everyday label for many eastern places. Changi Village, the Changi Airport complex, Changi Business Park, Upper Changi Road East, Loyang and Simei do not share the same school commute. A family working at Changi Airport may travel home somewhere else; the child’s school journey begins from the residence, not a parent’s workplace.

Changkat Changi Secondary is in Simei. East Spring, Ngee Ann and Dunman Secondary are in Tampines. Hai Sing Catholic and Loyang View are in Pasir Ris. This division is useful because a child near Changi Village may face a slower first-mile bus journey, while a child near Upper Changi MRT or Simei may have very different access. A nearby-looking school can require a surprising transfer.

The East–West Line serves Simei and Tampines; the Downtown Line serves Upper Changi and Tampines East; Changi Airport has its own rail and bus connections. None of these is a promise that every school is beside a station. Compare actual bus intervals at school reporting time and late-afternoon service after CCAs.

Families in the far east can reasonably consider eligible schools in Pasir Ris, Tampines or Bedok, depending on where they live. In national Secondary 1 posting, a school outside the Changi planning-area boundary is not ineligible for that reason. The correct choice is a school with a workable commute and appropriate learning, not the one whose name contains Changi.

Build a door-to-gate journey for every plausible school. Start from the child’s real home, not the centre of the estate or a parent’s workplace. Add the walk to the stop, waiting, actual bus or train journey, any transfer and the walk from the final stop to the correct campus entrance. Try to estimate conditions at the real school reporting time rather than assuming weekend services and traffic are the same.

Repeat the test after a late CCA. A child may be carrying a musical instrument, wet PE clothes or additional study materials and may have homework due the next day. A direct trip that looks slightly longer on the map may be easier than a route with two transfers. On the other hand, a student who is passionate about an appropriate programme might willingly accept extra travelling. Parents should make that trade-off visible rather than pretend it is free.

The Secondary 1 exercise is a national system, not an estate quota. A suitable school in an adjacent town remains available to an eligible pupil even when its postal or planning-area label differs. Ordinary Secondary 1 posting does not give a school priority for families within one or two kilometres in the way that Primary 1 registration has distance categories. Location matters immensely for quality of life, but does not override posting eligibility.

Mistakes to avoid when researching Changi secondary school choices

Changkat Changi Secondary School is a live school at Simei Street 3, not a school on the airport campus. Its aviation ALP does not imply that its students receive an automatic professional pilot training pathway, nor that every pupil is selected for special aerospace opportunities.

Dunman Secondary School in Tampines is not Dunman High School, the six-year SAP Integrated Programme school in Kallang. Their curricula, school codes and published posting ranges differ.

Ngee Ann Secondary has a recognised affiliated-primary relationship; simply living in Changi, having friends from Ngee Ann Primary or applying to the school does not guarantee affiliation priority. Check the exact current rules and non-affiliated score row.

Most parents in Changi will need a shortlist across more than one planning area. A narrow list labelled ‘Changi only’ may omit valid and convenient schools, and there is no ordinary Secondary 1 home-distance priority comparable to Primary 1 registration.

Most mistakes can be prevented by a short verification note for each school: the current name, the correct campus, the applicable admission route and the child-specific eligibility. Do not copy an old school number from a discussion forum when it may represent a different cohort or an affiliated group. If a programme is IP, DSA-based, SAP, independent or specialised, the family should check the separate conditions before treating it as another ordinary school.

Understand the total PSLE Score and individual ALs

The Primary School Leaving Examination assigns an Achievement Level to each of English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue. The overall PSLE Score is their sum. For example, AL3 in English, AL4 in Mathematics, AL3 in Science and AL4 in Mother Tongue produce a total of 14. The strongest possible total is 4, and a smaller total represents stronger overall examination achievement. This number is necessary for school selection but does not measure every strength a twelve-year-old possesses.

One pupil may have a strong result in Mathematics and need additional support in writing. Another may be exceptionally motivated to perform music, communicate in Malay, build a robot or care for older people but find some exam questions difficult. The family should use the subject profile to ask practical questions of schools. The total score can determine an eligible posting route; individual strengths and learning needs help decide whether the school’s teaching will suit the pupil.

A school’s published score range describes the strongest and least competitive scores of the students actually posted to a particular track in an earlier year. The last score becomes the historical cut-off. It is not a fixed minimum mark predetermined by the school for future applicants. A child who scores better than the first posted pupil is not ‘too strong’, and a child exactly at last year’s cut-off is not guaranteed a seat. Both misunderstandings can distort a family’s six choices.

When an Integrated Programme or Special Assistance Plan school is considered, verify the correct row. Some SAP historical results include a letter such as (D), (M) or (P) for Higher Chinese Distinction, Merit or Pass. These suffixes reflect the earlier applicant outcome and can be material to the applicable rules; do not strip them off when sharing a table. A six-year IP route is also a different curriculum and applicant pool from a mainstream four-year SEC programme.

Posting Groups and subject levels under Full Subject-Based Banding

The school entry Posting Group should not be confused with the G1, G2 or G3 level of every secondary subject. Full Subject-Based Banding allows pupils to study individual subjects at levels of demand that reflect their readiness and the national rules. The old Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams no longer define the whole school experience of a new Secondary 1 pupil. Mixed form classes and subject-level choices help teachers cater to different strengths.

For most children, a total PSLE Score of 4–20 is associated with Posting Group 3; 21–22 can allow a choice between Posting Groups 2 and 3; 23–24 generally leads to Posting Group 2; 25 can offer the choice between Posting Groups 1 and 2; and 26–30 generally leads to Posting Group 1, subject to specific qualifying conditions including English and Mathematics. The actual result slip is the reliable record. A pupil with Foundation subjects or unusual circumstances needs the official current guidance, not an oversimplified internet chart.

Where the result slip offers two Posting Groups, the group chosen for the regular S1 submission applies across the six selected schools. Parents cannot use PG3 for one school and PG2 for the next within the same form. The correct group decision affects initial subject levels, school eligibility and a child’s manageable workload. Discuss it with the primary school if the family is uncertain.

The restructured Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate examinations begin in 2027 for the first relevant graduating cohort, consolidating the former N- and O-Level arrangements for mainstream students. A child entering Secondary 1 in 2027 will be educated in this subject-level framework. Some IP and specialised programmes have other examination routes and progression arrangements; these differences should be understood as part of a long-term educational decision, not treated as mere prestige labels.

Using previous cut-offs without turning them into a false school ranking

An earlier PG3 last-posted score of 12 is more selective than an earlier score of 22, but that does not prove the former institution has better teachers, kinder classmates, more appropriate CCAs or greater progress for every student. The score reflects who applied and received places through one previous exercise. The child may thrive at a school with a less selective history because the school teaches clearly, responds to their needs and allows them to explore interests.

Parents should separate three categories of evidence. Admission evidence is the historical range and programme rules. Educational evidence concerns the actual curriculum, subject support, school culture and activities. Family evidence concerns the pupil’s interests, wellbeing, the journey, cost and household commitments. None of these three categories can replace the others. A school with plausible admission but an exhausting route is not automatically sensible, and a famous school the child cannot enter is not a useful choice on the form.

MOE encourages families to use all six choices and to include two or three schools at which their child’s score is better than the previous cut-off point. That is sensible risk management; it is not a guarantee. Avoid calling any choice ‘safe’ merely because it had spare places last year. Demands can change, and the child should be able to enjoy the school if allocated there. A real preference list contains places the family would be willing to join, not five prizes and one unwanted backup.

A six-school preference method for Changi parents

Choice positionWhat to checkWhy this matters
1Genuine first choice, valid programme and entry eligibilityThe child truly wants the school and preference can matter in a tie
2A second educational environment the pupil would welcomeDo not just repeat a famous name with different spelling
3Published historical range for the correct Posting GroupA grounded admission comparison, not a prediction
4School culture, daily teaching and a realistic commuteA school the child can attend with energy
5A less historically restrictive option that still fitsBalance uncertainty without treating the school as inferior
6Another genuinely acceptable and eligible choiceA real school that the child could be posted to

Where eligible pupils with the same PSLE Score compete for the last vacancies, the ordinary posting tie-breakers use citizenship, then the position of the school in the pupil’s choice order, followed by computerised balloting. Higher Chinese may matter under a SAP school’s specified rules; officially recognised affiliations can have additional conditions. Listing a school first does not overcome fundamental eligibility or merit differences. It does matter that the family ranks schools sincerely rather than attempting to invent a trick for the algorithm.

A successful DSA-Sec allocation generally commits the pupil to the school and removes the normal six-school choice exercise, subject to the applicable DSA rules. An unsuccessful DSA application is different. Separately specialised institutions may have their own direct applications or transfer requirements. Parents should establish exactly which kind of result they have before completing forms. If uncertain, the child’s primary school and MOE guidance are appropriate sources of clarification.

Family examples: how Changi parents can make different sound decisions

A child with PSLE Score 17 in PG3

Changkat Changi, East Spring and Loyang View previously had PG3 last-posted scores of 22, historically less restrictive than 17. Hai Sing Catholic’s earlier 15, Dunman Secondary’s 14 and Ngee Ann’s 12 were more selective. This is not a forecast. The family should first verify the child’s eligibility and then balance preferred schools across several credible outcomes.

For this family, a useful exercise is to record the facts and the preferences in separate columns. The official route, published earlier score, campus and schoolwide programme can be verified. Whether a child wants to travel there, feels comfortable in the school culture or has the patience to pursue a specialist interest needs discussion. If both columns support the choice, it belongs on the longlist. If they conflict, investigate rather than forcing a reputation-based decision.

A child who loves aircraft

Changkat Changi’s aerospace programme may be interesting, but liking an aeroplane is different from enjoying the patient Mathematics, experiments and engineering errors involved. Ask what the ordinary first-year learning contains. Other schools may offer engineering or maker CCAs without the same formal aviation ALP.

A child fascinated by medical science

East Spring gives health-science questions a prominent role. Compare that with Hai Sing Catholic’s robotics and Loyang View’s environmental sustainability. The family can decide whether the pupil is more interested in investigating a health issue, programming a device or designing a sustainable system.

A pupil attracted to creative technology and a broad range of subjects

Ngee Ann’s discovery electives may help a child who does not yet know whether art, business, languages or STEM will become a passion. Dunman Secondary’s technology-supported learning offers another setting. The core question is how each school teaches reasoning, good study habits and focused device use.

A family at Changi Village rather than Upper Changi

The transport balance may be the opposite of what a parent near Simei assumes. Check existing routes to Pasir Ris as well as Tampines and do not rely on one generic Changi travel-time estimate or an open-house trip made by car.

What parents should ask at school open houses

Look for clear answers. A school saying it nurtures future-ready thinkers is making an aspiration; a school explaining how teachers help a student correct an incorrect equation is describing a real teaching process. Similarly, an innovation award may reflect a small selected group, while a supportive first-year Science programme may benefit every child. The right school for a teenager is the one whose ordinary lessons, relationships and opportunities can help that particular pupil progress.

What to do during the PSLE results week

Results day can be emotionally difficult if a child expected a different score. Parents can acknowledge that disappointment without prolonging comparisons to relatives, neighbours or classmates. The more useful next step is a concrete plan: understand eligibility, identify appropriate schools and let the child see a worthwhile future in more than one place. A PSLE score is an important examination result, not a permanent prediction of character, capacity or career.

Fees, travel, wellbeing and the first Secondary 1 term

A family’s school budget should include transport, books, uniforms, meals, personal learning devices, sports equipment, instruments, school activities and any compulsory programme cost. Independent and specialised school fees may differ from ordinary government school fees, so check the correct route rather than assume one amount applies everywhere. Families who qualify for MOE financial assistance or school bursaries should ask the school for its current application information rather than avoid considering a suitable institution without checking the support available.

The first Secondary 1 term may feel much larger than Primary 6. Students have more teachers, multiple subject expectations, new CCAs, unfamiliar class relationships and more responsibility for organising work. Simple skills help: check the weekly timetable, pack the right books and PE clothes, write down homework, monitor school announcements, make an after-school plan and ask a teacher for a clear explanation when confused. These are habits families can practise before the school year begins.

If a pupil has additional learning, medical, sensory, mobility or emotional needs, the family should ask both the primary and prospective secondary schools what supports can be carried over. A short commute and accessible campus can matter a great deal; so can teachers who understand a particular difficulty and support officers who can help with adjustment. A school with an attractive exam history is not necessarily the correct choice if the child’s practical needs cannot be met.

Some students will make new friends quickly, while others will need time. A parent should not interpret one awkward orientation day as proof that the school is wrong. However, ongoing exclusion, severe exhaustion or persistent difficulty following lessons should prompt constructive contact with the form teacher. The aim is to establish healthy learning and social routines, not to create a constant comparison with children at other schools.

A parent worksheet to finish before submission

QuestionEvidence to collectCommon mistake
Can the child actually enter?Actual result, exact route, school code, gender and language conditionsChoosing an ineligible institution or outdated school
What does the last-posted score mean?Earlier year and correct PG/IP/affiliation categoryTreating history as a guaranteed 2027 threshold
What will the pupil learn?Curriculum, all-student ALP, core subject support and feedbackSelecting by one promotional programme alone
Will the child feel able to belong?School ethos, classmates, form teacher support and CCAsImposing adult reputation on a child’s daily life
Can the family sustain the commute?Morning route, late CCA journey, actual entrance and operating servicesPlanning from a misleading estate label
Can we afford the real weekly costs?Fees, transport, food, uniforms, devices and possible assistanceAssuming every school has identical charges
Are all six choices genuine?Ordered preferences, eligibility and credible alternativesUsing an unwanted throwaway sixth school

This worksheet should not be converted into a fake numerical ranking of school quality. It is useful precisely because the trade-offs differ for each child. A pupil interested in music may value a specialist elective, while a pupil who needs patient Mathematics instruction may prefer a school with a different niche and shorter travel. Parents should make a judgement using reliable information rather than pretending that one cut-off number answers every question.

Frequently asked questions for Changi parents

Is Changkat Changi Secondary inside Changi Airport?

No. Its current official address is 23 Simei Street 3 in the Tampines planning area.

Does Changi have its own standard mainstream secondary-school COP?

The Changi planning-area school field does not have a separately listed mainstream secondary school; use nearby schools and their actual MOE records.

Is Dunman Secondary the same as Dunman High?

No. Dunman Secondary is a mainstream Tampines school; Dunman High offers a separate six-year IP in Kallang.

Are all six named schools co-educational?

Yes. Families wanting a single-sex school should widen the search to eligible options elsewhere.

Can a Changi family put a school in Pasir Ris or Tampines among its six choices?

Yes. The Secondary 1 Posting Exercise is national and not restricted to home planning areas.

Does an aviation programme guarantee aviation employment?

No. It teaches relevant STEM capabilities and interests; later educational and career routes depend on many further choices and achievements.

If the child’s score equals last year’s cut-off, is admission assured?

No. A previous cut-off is the last admitted pupil’s score in an earlier exercise, not a reservation for this year’s applicant. Demand, vacancies, programme requirements and tie-breakers can cause a different outcome.

Can a family choose a school outside its planning area?

Yes. Normal Secondary 1 school selection is national. The child’s official eligibility and school codes matter; planning-area boundaries do not prevent a pupil from listing another eligible school. Practical travel remains important.

Should a more selective previous cut-off always win?

No. Past selectiveness does not directly measure teaching, wellbeing or individual educational fit. Compare the actual school experience and make sure the child could thrive and grow there.

Official information, school programme references and related guides

Information date and limitations: prepared 1 November 2026. The named cut-off figures refer to the historical PSLE 2025 posting into Secondary 1 in 2026, not the yet-to-be-established posting outcomes for 2027 entry. Where an address or programme changes, the current MOE and school record overrides an earlier school directory. Check all actual school codes, eligibility, programme-specific selections, affiliations, fees, 2026 dates and transport before submitting the family’s choices. This independent guide makes no admission guarantee or claim of school endorsement.

The best secondary-school decision for a family in Changi

End with three clear questions. Can our child enter the exact route? That is answered by the official results and admission rules. Can our child grow and learn there? That depends on teaching, encouragement, challenge, interests and school culture. Can the family sustain the journey and costs? That requires an honest everyday plan. If all three are credible, the school belongs on the shortlist regardless of whether its name is famous or its previous score was unusually selective.

A twelve-year-old does not need to know every future examination or career. The next school should help the child become a more capable reader, reasoner, communicator, learner and friend. Once a sensible list is submitted, the family’s attention can move to supporting the transition: independence, rest, study habits, friendships and the confidence to ask questions. That is what makes the next stage of education worthwhile.
