Seeing the correct answer can resolve confusion immediately. The student understands the solution, the page is corrected and everyone moves on. Yet the same error may return days later. The correction fixed the artifact; it did not necessarily change the learner.
Understanding the correction is supported performance
While a solution is visible, the learner can follow its logic. That is useful, but it differs from generating the same logic independently. The next question may remove the cues that made the correction feel obvious.
Locate the first wrong decision
Do not focus only on the final wrong answer. Find where the reasoning first diverged. Was a concept misunderstood, a clue missed, a method selected incorrectly or a procedure executed badly? Repair begins at the earliest meaningful failure.
Reconstruct without looking
After studying the correction, close it. Redo the question from the beginning and explain the important decision. If the learner cannot reconstruct the solution, more processing is needed.
Change the question
The original question may become memorable. Use a new problem with different numbers, wording, evidence or context but the same underlying principle. Transfer demonstrates more than successful repetition of the corrected item.
Return after a delay
An immediate redo can still rely on recent memory. Revisit the error type later and mix it with other work. The learner must recognise the need for the repaired knowledge independently.
Track recurrence
If the same error returns, the previous intervention did not fully work. Change the repair: isolate the prerequisite, compare examples and non-examples, increase retrieval or create a targeted checking routine.
The repair
Treat the correct answer as the beginning of repair, not its completion. Diagnose, reconstruct, vary, delay and retest. Learning has occurred when the future decision changes, not merely when today’s page displays the right answer.
