How to Prioritise PSLE Studies for AL1 | Triage, Time & Error Cost

Quick answer: PSLE prioritisation should not mean “study the weakest subject the most” or “English, Mathematics and Science are more heavily weighted”. Under the Achievement Level system, the PSLE Score is the sum of the Achievement Levels across four subjects. A strong study plan therefore protects all four subjects while allocating extra time to weaknesses according to error cost, recurrence, prerequisite leverage, examination proximity and repair time.

MOE’s Achievement Level framework uses eight ALs for Standard-level subjects, with AL1 corresponding to a reference raw mark range of 90 and above. Achievement Levels create broad reference bands. If a learner is consistently near a band boundary, a small reliable gain can matter.

But do not turn this into frantic mark chasing. Ask whether the gain is supported by a real capability repair.

Band proximity changes urgency, but the work still has to be educationally real.

If the learner is several bands away, do not make every week an AL1 simulation.
