Primary 6 Vocabulary Free Online Tuition: Retrieval, Collocation and Transfer Practice
This page turns a historical Nan Hua SA2 2019 vocabulary bank into an active online lesson. It is an eduKate learning resource, not an official prescribed PSLE vocabulary list.
Round 1 — Five Words
merchant, cargo, creditor, fitful, compensate
- merchant — person/business involved in buying and selling goods
- cargo — goods carried by ship, aircraft or another vehicle
- creditor — person or organisation to whom money is owed
- fitful — irregular and interrupted
- compensate — make up for loss, harm or disadvantage
Collocation Check
- cargo ___

- make a ___
- plagued ___ worry
Possible answers: ship/hold; sleep; for; repayment; by.
Contrast Check
- borrower / creditor
- weary / feeble
- gazed / glanced
- repayment / compensation
- shrieked / shouted
Explain the difference in one sentence for each pair. Do not simply write two definitions; explain what makes the words non-interchangeable.
Retrieval Without the List
- A person who owes borrowed money: ________.
- A person or organisation to whom money is owed: ________.
- Goods carried by a ship or aircraft: ________.
- Irregular, interrupted sleep: ________ sleep.
- To make up for a loss or harm: ________.
Answers: borrower; creditor; cargo; fitful; compensate.
Sentence Repair
Correct the vocabulary or usage problem:
- The creditor borrowed money from the merchant.
- He gazed at the clock for a split second.
- She was weary because she had no physical strength at all.
- The company repaid him for the injury as compensation of the loss.
- He was plagued with worry every night.
Possible corrections: borrower; glanced; feeble may fit weakness better; compensated him for the loss/injury; plagued by worry.
Round 2 — Movement and Intensity
shrieked, scrambled, frantically, shuffling, feebly
Write a five-sentence mini-scene in which each word is justified by the action. If a calmer word would fit better, replace it. Stronger vocabulary is useful only when the event actually calls for it.
Round 3 — People and Place
monk, monastery, barber, townsfolk, merchant
Sort them into people and place/community. Then write one sentence that connects at least three naturally.
Delayed Review
Return after several days and try to retrieve ten words from definitions only. Words that cannot be retrieved go back into active review.
Learning Sequence
Meaning → collocation → contrast → retrieval → repair → transfer → delayed review.
