Inference Strength Depends on Evidence Strength
A single action can be ambiguous. A character who looks at the clock may be bored, anxious, impatient or simply checking the time. A second clue narrows the possibilities.

Clues Should Be Independent
Two phrases that merely repeat the same sentence may add little. Stronger support comes from different observations that converge on the same conclusion.

- State the first possible inference.
- Name another plausible explanation.
- Find a second clue.
- Ask which explanation now fits better.
This makes inference a comparison of explanations rather than a guess.
Do Not Collect Clues Forever
Once the evidence is sufficient, stop. More clues can become redundant and make the answer longer without increasing confidence.
