An error budget is a way to classify and prioritise mark losses before deciding how much full-paper practice to do.
- Structural errors: task misread, evidence failure, writing architecture, time collapse.
- Transfer errors: rule known in isolation but not selected in mixed work.
- Execution errors: slips the student can self-correct.
- Noise: unusual one-off items that do not repeat.
The budget is not permission to be careless. It is a prioritisation tool.
Why Full Papers Can Hide the Root Error
A full paper produces many red marks. Without classification, the student may revise whatever feels easiest instead of whatever costs the most marks repeatedly.
