What we diagnose first
Before adding more worksheets, we identify whether the student is struggling mainly with:

- grammar and sentence structure;
- comprehension of explicit and implied meaning;
- organisation of ideas;
- composition development;
- oral expression; or
- exam execution and time management.
Two students with the same overall mark can therefore need very different lessons.
Primary 1–2: make English usable
For younger students, we focus on accurate reading, basic grammar, sentence formation, useful vocabulary and the confidence to express a complete idea. The aim is not to rush ahead. It is to make the language stable enough that later work has something firm to build on.
Primary 3–4: connect reading and writing
As texts become longer, students need to track sequence, cause and effect, motive, pronoun reference and implied meaning. Writing also becomes more structured. Students learn that a paragraph should serve a purpose and that description is useful only when it supports the scene or idea.
Primary 5–6: precision and PSLE readiness
Upper Primary English requires several skills to operate together under time pressure. Students need to read carefully, retrieve meaning accurately, organise composition ideas efficiently and control grammar and vocabulary well enough to express what they mean.
Revision therefore alternates between targeted skill repair and mixed examination practice.
Comprehension
We teach students to separate what a passage states directly from what must be inferred. Answers should be supported by the text and expressed in language that addresses the exact question.
Vocabulary and grammar
Vocabulary grows best through repeated meaningful use. Grammar becomes reliable when students apply it in real sentences rather than only identify a rule in isolation.

Composition
Good composition writing needs a coherent situation, believable characters, clear sequence, controlled pacing and an ending that resolves the central problem.
We teach planning, paragraph control, useful description, dialogue, vocabulary choice and revision. Difficult words are useful only when they are accurate.
Oral communication
Students should be able to respond clearly, extend an idea and support an opinion with relevant detail. We work on structure, clarity and confidence rather than rehearsed performance alone.
