Open-ended Science questions are difficult because they require several skills at once: reading the evidence, selecting the right concept, explaining the mechanism and answering the exact question in precise language.

Start from the evidence
Students learn to identify what the question actually shows: an observation, a diagram, a table, a graph or an experimental result. This prevents them from reciting a familiar fact that does not answer the evidence presented.
Select the relevant concept
The next step is deciding which scientific idea explains the result. This requires recognition, not simply recall of a chapter name.
Explain the mechanism
This is the link students often omit. They may name the right concept but fail to explain how it causes the observed result. We make that causal relationship explicit.
Finish with the exact conclusion
The answer should return to what the question asked. Students learn to avoid drifting into unrelated scientific facts.
Vocabulary with precision
Scientific terms matter, but only when they are used accurately. We teach students to use vocabulary as part of reasoning rather than as decoration.
PSLE transfer
Once a question type is understood, we vary the context so the student must rebuild the answer from the underlying Science. This is especially important in mixed PSLE practice.
What progress looks like

- less dependence on memorised model sentences; and
- greater independence in mixed questions.
