Comprehension: read for meaning, not keywords
Students need to distinguish what a passage states directly from what must be inferred. We teach them to notice sequence, contrast, cause and effect, motive, pronoun reference and the role of specific details.
Answers should address the exact question. Copying a large part of the passage is not the same as demonstrating understanding.
Grammar that survives outside the worksheet
Grammar is useful when students can apply it in real sentences. We therefore connect grammar practice to comprehension, editing and writing instead of leaving rules isolated.
Common areas include agreement, tense, pronouns, sentence structure, connectors, punctuation and the control of complete sentences.
Vocabulary that improves expression
Vocabulary grows through repeated, meaningful use. Students need to know not only what a word means, but where it sounds natural, what words commonly appear beside it and what tone it creates.
We prefer accurate vocabulary to impressive vocabulary. The best word is the one that expresses the idea precisely.
Writing with structure
For composition, students need more than descriptive phrases. They need a clear situation, purposeful characters, logical sequence, controlled pacing and an ending that resolves what the story introduced.

Primary 1–6 progression
For younger students, the priority is reading confidence, sentence formation and useful vocabulary. In the middle Primary years, comprehension and composition become more structured. By Primary 5 and Primary 6, students need stronger inference, more controlled writing and increasingly independent examination performance.
