Wait, What? Why Put a Magnet in a Door, Bag or Toy?
Magnets are useful because they can attract magnetic materials and interact with other magnets without needing glue, hooks or direct pushing by hand.
Primary 3 goal: recognise familiar uses of magnets and explain the use by linking the object’s job to the magnetic property being used.

The stronger learning move is not to memorise a list. It is to explain why the magnet is useful in that object.
2. Job → Magnetic Property → Result
Ask three questions: What does the object need to do? What magnetic interaction helps? What useful result follows?
3. Example — Refrigerator Door Seal
The door needs to stay closed against the refrigerator frame. A magnetic strip in the seal is attracted to suitable magnetic material in the frame, helping hold the door shut.
The explanation is not simply “there is a magnet”. The useful link is attraction → door held closed.
4. Example — Magnetic Bag or Cabinet Catch
A magnetic catch can help keep two parts together until a person pulls them apart.
This can be useful in some bags, boxes, cupboards and cases because the closure is quick and does not require tying a knot.
5. Example — Compass
A compass uses a magnetised needle that can turn freely. The needle settles in a preferred North–South direction, helping the user determine direction.
This use depends on a different magnetic characteristic from a fridge-door seal: orientation, not simply attraction to a nearby object.
