NASA Tube 08 | Technology Development | Build What Does Not Yet Exist

Some missions require capabilities that do not yet exist.

Technology development turns scientific possibility into usable hardware, software, materials and procedures. New ideas must move from experiment toward repeatable capability before the mission can depend on them.

  • What capability is missing?
  • Can it be demonstrated at small scale?
  • What environment must it survive?
  • What evidence is required before the mission trusts it?

Making the impossible possible often happens here: not by ignoring constraints, but by inventing a new way to satisfy them.
